Taking care of your jewelry plays a big part in making them last long and always look great.
Different materials need different care, below you can read about how to best take care of, and clean your jewelry.
Always keep in mind that even though metals such as silver and gold can withstand alot they are not unbreakable, always be careful with your jewelry.
Silver can be cleaned using a polishing cloth (you can find this in our webshop), or by carefully brushing it with a soft toothbrush, timid water and dish soap.
If the silver have turned dark or black, also known as oxidated, it is not quite as simple to clean. If your jewelry have oxidated I recommend that you use liquid or foam silver polish. It usually helps to just dip the item, but if it is very dark you might have to carefully scrub the item with the silver polish using a clean cloth or sponge.
Always rinse thoroughly after using silver polish. When the item is compeletly dry, finish by using a polishing cloth.
Remember to store the polishing cloth in a way that it does not collect dust as it can scratch your jewelry the next time you use it.
Using a soft toothbrush, timid water and dishsoap is a great way to clean your gold jewelry, especially if they also have stones in them.
The dish soap and timid water brings back the sparkle in your stones when you brush away old hand soap residue and dead skin that often accumilate inside stone settings.
Since it happens gradually over time you may not notice that your stones loose their sparkle, but you will see the difference once you clean it.
There are also polishing cloths you can use for your gold jeweley, as well as liquid gold polish, however, I find liquid gold polish unnecessary if you have a toothbrush and dish soap, it works just as well. But a polishing cloth is always a good investment, you can find polishing cloths for all types of jewelry in our webshop.
Pearls are very sensitive, but there are some easy steps you can follow to keep them nice and shiny.
Keep your pearls by theamselves and not in the same space as other jewelry as it can damage the pearls, and do not keep them with cotton as this can dry out the pearls.
Always apply perfumes, lotion and hairspray before you put on your pearls as these products can make the pearls loose their luster.
Clean your pearls very carefully with a damp cloth from time to time, and keep an eye on the silk thread that holds the pearls (if they are in a necklace or bracelet) since it gets worn over time and will need to be replaced if you use your pearls on a regular basis.
Avoid high temperature changes for the pearls as it can cause the pearl to crack, don't put a warm pearl on a cold surface.
If you have a pearl necklace that needs new silk thread, please contact us using the contact form and we can fix this for you!
